National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS),
National Institute of Health (NIH), is soliciting proposals from
offerors having the capability and facilities to perform the
following: Work Assignment 1. Pathology Working Group (PWG)
Review:  The Contractor shall conduct PWG reviews (usually
conducted at the NIEHS) for NTP prechronic and chronic studies
and for in-house NIEHS studies. This encompasses a thorough
review of all pathology and toxicology data, target tissues,
potential treatment-related lesions and other selected tissues
and lesions from a study by an appropriately trained and
qualified pathologist, with subsequent selection and preparation
of relevant data for a PWG panel review in consultation with an
NIEHS pathologist assigned to the study.  Work Assignment 2.
Necropsy, Histology, and Histopathological Interpretation:  The
Contractor shall conduct complete necropsies that may include
blood collection, whole body or organ perfusion for
ultrastructural examinations, radiography or rapid freezing of
various tissues that may include post fixation trimming of
collected tissue samples in preparation for tissue processing and
paraffin embedding.  Work Assignment 3. Data Entry:  Pathology
data from the histopathological evaluation, and the peer review
(PWG chairperson's review) shall be entered into a special
computer program.  Work Assignment 4. Evaluation of Pathology
Materials:  The Contractor shall perform wet tissue examination
and inventory including verification of animal identification,
tissue accountability, gross lesion identification and
description, assessment of quality and thoroughness of tissue
trimming, and slide/block and wet tissue match-up.  This project
will cover a five year period including 3 Options-Work
Assignments.  The Government estimates that the contract shall
require approximately 2 professional person-years and 2.5
technical person-years (per year) in addition to 1.5 persons
years for administrative and clerical support.  All requests must
reference RFP No. NIH-ES-99-34 and must be directed to the office
listed above.  Release of the RFP is anticipated on or about May
18, 1999 with proposals due July 6, 1999.  All responsible
sources may submit a proposal which shall be considered by the
Agency.
