INFORMATION CONCERNING THE RFA LABEL AVAILABLE IN THE PHS 398 Release Date: March 11, 1999 Center for Scientific Review The Division of Receipt and Referral of the Center for Scientific Review, NIH processes approximately 40,000 competing grant applications each year. Approximately 10% of these applications are in response to Requests for Applications (RFAs). As part of a continuing effort to streamline the process of receipt and referral and expedite the handling of grant applications, a small change in the identification of RFA responses is being implemented. Currently RFAs include the following instructions: The RFA label available in the application form PHS 398 must be affixed to the bottom of the face page. Failure to use this label could result in delayed processing of the application such that it may not reach the review committee in time for review. This instruction is now modified as follows: The RFA label and line 2 of the application should both indicate the RFA number. The RFA label must be affixed to the bottom of the face page. Failure to use this label could result in delayed processing of the application such that it may not reach the review committee in time for review. The sample RFA label available at: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/funding/phs398/label-bk.pdf has been modified to allow for this change. Please note this is in pdf format.
