Release Date: July 15, 1998

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION: NINDS-98-RFI-02

P.T.

National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) is seeking
to identify sources who have developed or who have the expertise and capability
of developing seizure models, based on current and previous work, that can be
used in identifying new chemical entities for the treatment of therapy-resistant
epilepsy or recurrent seizures. These seizure models can utilize either in vivo
or in vitro technologies. Interested organizations are asked to submit the
following information to demonstrate both their organizational and personnel
experience and capabilities:

1. For sources who have a seizure model, provide a description of the technology
(seizure model) and a summary of the experimental data showing drug effects in
the technology. For sources having the expertise and capability of developing
a seizure model, provide a description of a proposed model along with supporting
evidence of previous experience in developing seizure models. The documentation
could be in the form of scientific publications or reports.

2. Provide documentation to demonstrate staff/personnel knowledge, experience
and expertise in developing seizure models for drug discovery.

3. Describe the existing animal and laboratory facilities and equipment needed
to develop a seizure model.

4. Include other specific and pertinent information as it would pertain to your
ability and expertise in this area.

Interested organizations should submit a capability statement of approximately
10 pages addressing the information requested above and detailing ability to
perform all aspects of the effort described herein. Responses are due by August
19, 1998. Responses will be reviewed only by NIH personnel and will be held in
a confidential manner. All proprietary information should be so marked and will
be protected.

This announcement is a Request for Information (RFI). The purpose of this RFI
is to identify potential sources that may be interested and capable of developing
new seizure models. The Government does not intend to award a contract on the
basis of responses nor otherwise pay for the preparation of any information
submitted or the Government's use of such information. However, should such a
requirement materialize, no basis for claims against the Government shall arise
as a result of a response to this synopsis or the Governments use of such
information as part of the evaluation process or in developing specifications for
any subsequent requirement. This requirement is listed under Standard Industrial
Classification SIC Code 8731. All respondents are asked to indicate the type and
size of their business organization in their response.
