ARMY TO CONDUCT OSTEOPOROSIS RESEARCH PROGRAM NIH GUIDE, Volume 25, Number 8, March 15, 1996 P.T. 34 Keywords: 0715031 National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command The U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) has issued a Broad Agency Announcement on May 5, 1996 to solicit proposals in osteoporosis research. The 1995 Defense Appropriations Act provides $4 million to the Department of Defense to conduct the Osteoporosis Research Program. The 1996 program will follow the guidelines established by the U.S. Congress with the assistance of the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. The overall goals of the program are to reduce the incidence of osteoporosis, decrease morbidity, and improve the quality of life for those afflicted with the disease. The program will emphasize research that is innovative and relevant to osteoporosis. The deadline for the receipt of applications is April 18, 1996. Grants will have a four year duration and four to five awards are expected.
