The National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders

(NIDCD) announces a new policy on the maximum amount of direct costs

for applications for program projects (P01) and specialized research

centers (P50). Effective for the application receipt date of June 1,

1996, applications for new and competing continuation (renewal)

program projects and specialized research centers, to the NIDCD, may

request up to $900,000 (direct costs) for the first year of requested

support. Applications exceeding this limit will be returned to the

applicant without further review. Future year requested levels of

support must be calculated for inflationary increases only, using

standard NIH guidelines.
