Purpose

Multi-site clinical trials are a critical scientific step in bringing new interventions to patients. However, they frequently experience challenges in recruiting participants, leading to additional cost and delays. The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) intends to promote innovation and efficiency in participant recruitment into multi-site studies through Recruitment Innovation Centers (RICs). To that end, NCATS plans to publish a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to establish RICs building on the existing expertise at the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) hubs and on current CTSA consortium initiatives.

This Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects.

The FOA is expected to be published in winter 2015 with an expected application due date in spring 2015.

This FOA will utilize the U01 activity code.

Research Initiative Details

This Notice encourages collaborative teams of investigators with expertise and insights in areas such as informatics, clinical trial methodology and regulations, patient and community outreach, and stakeholder engagement to begin to consider applying for this forthcoming FOA.

This FOA will encourage use of the electronic medical record (EMR) first at subsets of CTSA hubs and ultimately across the CTSA network, to estimate the number of potential participants who meet the trial entry criteria. The FOA will further encourage the development of recruitment tools and strategies that can support connecting participants with potential trial opportunities once the trial is being implemented. Success in these endeavors will innovate the way recruitment feasibility estimates are done during the trial design phase and will provide new approaches to recruiting participants during the trial implementation phase.

APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING SOLICITED AT THIS TIME.
