National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) (http://www.ncrr.nih.gov )

The National Center for Research Resources in collaboration with the NIH Roadmap intends to announce a solicitation for collaborative pilot projects in informatics limited to Clinical and Translational Science Awardees in the fall of 2007.  It is expected that a contract mechanism will be utilized for this solicitation with funding expected in the summer of 2008.  It is also anticipated that this solicitation will be repeated in the fall of 2008.

The overarching purpose of the Clinical Translational Science Awards (CTSA) is to provide an institutional home for the evolving new discipline of clinical and translational science.  Infrastructure to support clinical and translational researchers is a key component of this home.  In addition, a significant element of the CTSA program is the establishment of a national consortium that will work together to address common issues and share ideas, experiences, and solutions broadly.  Informatics is a critical part of the program and offers substantial promise to advance clinical and translational science nationally.  The objective of the solicitation will be to advance development, adoption, implementation, and dissemination broadly of tools, standards, and practices for information exchange to facilitate the performance of research by clinical investigators and their collaborators within, among, and beyond CTSAs.  Duplication of ongoing efforts will not be supported and leverage of ongoing national efforts will be encouraged.  Each of the pilot projects will require the collaboration of three or more CTSAs.  Milestones will be a significant component of all projects with adoption of the solution by the supported sites required.

The review criteria will emphasize the potential and practical impact of the project on a significant barrier, burden, or problem in the performance of clinical research.  Appropriate agreements must be in place for any required policy issues.

Awards will for $500,000 to $1,000,000 total costs per year for two years. It is anticipated that approximately 2-4 awards will be made.
