Purpose

This Notice is to inform applicants who plan to submit PAR-13-129 Occupational Safety and Health Research (R01) http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-13-129.html awards that the following updates relating to this announcement have been issued:

Under Section I. Funding Opportunity Description, Purpose, the following paragraph should replace the paragraph on page 4:

NIOSH is committed to achieving the health promotion and disease prevention objectives of "Healthy People 2020" http://www.healthypeople.gov/2020/default.aspx  Healthy People 2020 objectives related to occupational safety and health (OSH) are primarily addressed through NORA http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/nora/about.html. This program, established by NIOSH and its partners to stimulate innovative research and improve workplace practices, provides a framework to guide OSH research. The goal of the NIOSH research program is to support research that is relevant, of high quality, and that demonstrates impact in reducing occupational disease and injury. Emphasis is placed on research projects that address needs outlined in NORA. NIOSH has created a Program Portfolio to broadly guide activities by categorizing programs into ten (10) major NORA Sector Programs that represent groups of industrial sectors, and twenty-four (24) cross-sector programs organized around adverse health outcomes, statutory programs and global efforts. Detailed information about the Program Portfolio can be found at http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/programs/

Under Section III. Eligibility Information, 1. Eligible Applicants, Eligible Organizations, Foreign Institutions, the following changes apply to applications submitted for this FOA:

Non-domestic (non-U.S.) Entities (Foreign Institutions) are not eligible to apply.

Non-domestic (non-U.S.) components of U.S. Organizations are not eligible to apply.

Foreign components, as defined in the NIH Grants Policy Statement, are allowed.

Under Section IV. Application and Submission Information, 2. Content and Form of Application Submission, Special Instructions, the following instructions apply to applications for this FOA: 

Grantee Meetings: Applicants should anticipate that a grantee meeting will be held at least annually.  While the location of this meeting is currently unknown, applicants should budget for the meeting to be in Atlanta. These meetings will likely be 1-2 days. Applicants should budget only for the PD/PI to attend.

Under Section IV. Application and Submission Information, 6. Other Submission Requirements and Information, the following paragraph should replace the paragraph on page 11:

Upon receipt, applications will be evaluated for completeness by the Center for Scientific Review and by NIOSH. Applications that are incomplete will not be reviewed.

Under Section VI. Award Administration Information, 3. Reporting, the following guidance applies to application(s) submitted to this FOA:

When multiple years are involved, awardees will be required to submit the Non-Competing Continuation Grant Progress Report (PHS 2590) (http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/url_redirect.htm?id=11160) annually and financial statements as required in the HHS Grants Policy Statement.

All other aspects of the FOA remain unchanged.
