New Electronic Submission Process Now Available for Administrative Supplement Requests

Purpose

NIH announces a of two new electronic processes for submitting administrative supplement requests to NIH.  As part of this implementation, NIH will now publish all administrative supplement programs as FOAs, not Guide Notices as done previously. 

Today NIH has published the first administrative supplement FOA.  Administrative Supplement requests may now be submitted in response to this FOA through either the eRA Commons or Grants.gov, as described in NOT-OD-12-024, or through the existing, paper-based process. 

This FOA (PA-12-100) is available for prior approval requests to nearly all active grant awards (in accordance with Section 8.1.2.11 of the NIH Grants Policy Statement), however, there is no guarantee funds are available from the awarding IC or for any specific grant.  All applicants are encouraged to discuss potential requests with the awarding IC (either the parent award’s assigned Grants Management and Program Staff, or the contacts listed in Section VII of a specific Administrative Supplement FOA).  Additionally, prior to submission, applicants must review the awarding IC's web site to ensure they meet the IC's requirements.  A list of those web sites is available at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/admin_supp/index.htm.

In the next few weeks NIH will also publish FOAs for Research Supplements to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research and Supplements to Promote Re-Entry into Biomedical and Behavioral Research Careers.  Once published, applicants are encouraged to use one of the two new electronic processes for submitting the request. 

FOAs issued by IC's for specific Administrative Supplement programs will allow submission through the new electronic processes.  However, submissions to existing NIH Guide Notices for Administrative Supplements should continue to follow the submission requirements outlined in those Notices.
