Purpose

This Notice updates NOT-OD-10-002 and NOT-OD-09-149 to inform applicants who plan to submit applications for NIH individual Career Development (K) awards:

  • for due dates after January 7, 2011, all new page limits will be enforced; and
  • for the January 7, 2011 due date, certain page limit warnings should be disregarded.

Due Dates after January 7, 2011

In order to provide greater consistency among applications, beginning with due dates after January 7, 2011, new page limits will be imposed for the following sections of the Career Development Award Supplemental Form:

  • The Mentoring Plan attachment will be limited to 6 pages.
  • The Statements by Mentor, Co-Mentors, Contributors attachment will be limited to 6 pages.
  • The Description of Institutional Environment attachment will be limited to 1 page.
  • The Commitment to Candidate's Research Career Development attachment is limited to 1 page.

All packages currently posted on the Grants.gov site reflect these changes.

January 7, 2011 Due Date

Applications for individual Career Development (K) Awards that will be submitted for the AIDS due date of January 7, 2011 will follow the earlier application instructions, which provide a combined 12-page limit for the first four items of Candidate Information (Candidate’s Background, Career Goals and Objectives, Career Development/Training Activities During Award Period, and Training in the Responsible Conduct of Research). However, no page limits are specified in these instructions for other parts of those applications.

NOTE: During this transition, these applicants will receive a warning related to new page limits upon submission. These warnings should be disregarded; no action is needed to address such warnings. However, applicants should address any warning related to other issues, and they must address any error message within the two-day error correction window.
