Have you been looking for a comprehensive program that provides valuable information about the NIH grants process? What about an opportunity to meet and discuss grants issues with approximately 25 HHS and NIH experts? If you are interested in topics such as how to apply for and manage an NIH grant application, grant writing for success, the latest in NIH peer review, compliance, animal and human subjects in research issues, research integrity, and how to interact electronically with NIH, then the NIH Regional Seminar is the place for you.

NIH offers two Regional Seminars each year that focus on topics related to NIH extramural program funding and grants administration. In April, the first Regional Seminar was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The next and final Regional Seminar of 2010 will be in Portland, Oregon on June 24-25.

In addition to two days of sessions, optional electronic Research Administration (eRA) hands-on computer workshops are offered prior to the seminar on Wednesday, June 23. These smaller group workshops historically reach capacity early, so if you are interested be sure to register today. There are also numerous opportunities throughout the 2-day seminar to visit with eRA experts who can assist you with your eRA Commons and electronic submission questions.

The NIH Regional Seminars are designed for those new to the grants process, including sponsored project officers and departmental administrators, investigators, faculty, graduate students, etc. However, it is also an opportunity for those with more experience to obtain updates on grants policies and procedures, as well as network with peers and NIH Faculty. On average, each seminar draws between 500-700 attendees which provides for sharing and learning opportunities from peers as well as NIH experts.

On-line registration is open until June 4, 2010 but space is limited.

Portland, Oregon Registration Site The registration fee for the 2-day seminar is $450; optional eRA computer workshops are available for $175 (1/2 day) or $350 (full day). Check out the site for more registration details, agenda samples, as well as hotel and area information. The host for this seminar is Oregon Health Sciences University.

These seminars provide an unparalleled opportunity for participants to gain a better perspective of NIH policies and programs, network with their peers, gather helpful NIH contacts, and to return to their offices and/or labs with inside information, resources, and tools to assist in obtaining and managing NIH awards. We hope to see you there!
