The National Library of Medicine (NLM) Resource Grant in Biomedical Informatics/Bioinformatics (PAR-04-142, https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-04-142.html) is designed for support of a unique, widely used research resource for clinical and basic biomedical sciences, a resource whose national or international community of users is large, whose value to that community is proven and documented. Projects to develop a knowledge base or suite of software tools that might someday be useful to a large scientific community are not appropriate for this grant. NLM's Biomedical Informatics Resource Grant cannot be used to support early research and development intended to ascertain feasibility or to underwrite the initial development or enhancement of a tool or resource.
Applicants interested in developing or enhancing a local resource or service should consider PAR 05-012, NLM Translational Informatics Grants, described at https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-05-012.html.
Applicants who wish to undertake biomedical informatics research, to develop and test novel information technologies, or to perform feasibility or proof-of-concept studies, should use one of NLM's other research grant mechanisms, listed at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/ep/GrantResearch.html.
