Purpose

This Notice informs the research community that AHRQ announces a new application budget limit and project period limit related to two AHRQ standing Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA s). These include the following program announcements:

  • AHRQ Health Services Research Projects (R01), PA-14-291
  • AHRQ Health Services Research Demonstration and Dissemination Grants (R18), PA-14-290

This Notice is related ONLY to those grant applications that propose to conduct projects that fall within AHRQ Research Priority Areas #3 and #4. AHRQ Research Priority Areas are more fully described at http://www.ahrq.gov/funding/policies/foaguidance/index.html. Specifically, the relevant areas of interest for this Notice are:

  • Priority Area #3: Increase Accessibility to Health Care
  • Priority Area #4: Improve Health Care Affordability, Efficiency, and Cost Transparency

For the two large research project and research demonstration FOAs indicated above, for applications whose projects align with AHRQ Research Priority Areas #3 or #4, AHRQ will accept applications with a special budget limit and project period limit. The limits are:

  • Total annual budget: The total costs (direct and indirect costs) can be up to $400,000 annually for the entire project period
  • Maximum length of project period: The maximum project period is up to 2 years

NOTE: AHRQ will also continue to accept research applications for these two FOA's in Research Project Areas #3 and #4 that fit within the budget limit and project period limit indicated within each FOA. For these two FOA's, the limits are: up to $250,000 total costs annual limit and a project period of up to 5 years.

Any application submitted to AHRQ with a total budget request and project period limit as indicated in this Notice should reference this Notice (NOT-HS-14-018) in the grant application. These limits are in effect with the publication of this Notice. They will be allowable for all remaining submission dates in these two FOA's. Information about the grant application process, including e-grant applications and the funding mechanisms noted above, can be found within the FOA's.
