AHRQ SOLICITS CAREER DEVELOPMENT (K) GRANTS IN PATIENT SAFETY Release Date: December 20, 2001 NOTICE: NOT-HS-02-001 Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (http://www.ahrq.gov) This notice informs the research community that the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has launched a major initiative to reduce medical errors and improve patient safety. With this initiative, AHRQ is funding research and training grants to help identify the causes of medical errors and develop effective solutions to strengthen quality of care across the country. Further information about AHRQ's research agenda in this area can be found on the Agency web-site at: http://www.ahrq.gov/qual/errorsix.htm. In particular, this notice announces AHRQ's interest in funding career development (K) grants to investigators who want to develop their research careers in areas related to patient safety. Information about AHRQ-sponsored career development grants can also be found on the Agency web-site at: http://www.ahrq.gov/fund/training/trainix.htm##. It is expected that these grant applications will include projects addressing key unanswered questions about how errors occur and provide science-based information on what patients, clinicians, hospital leaders, policymakers and others can do to make the health care system safer. Research results will identify improvement strategies that work in hospitals, doctors' offices, nursing homes, and other health care settings across the nation.
