Request for Information (RFI): Challenges and Opportunities in Pharmacogenomics

This Request for Information (RFI) is directed toward determining how best to accelerate pharmacogenomics research by identifying the most important challenges, promising opportunities, and gaps in current technologies and methodologies related to pharmacogenomics.

This RFI is for planning purposes only and should not be construed as a funding opportunity or grant program.

Information Requested

Input is requested on the following issues and topics: The critical technological advances that can be applied to pharmacogenomics problems. The tools and resources needed to enhance our molecular/genetic/biological mechanistic understanding. Specific new methods and approaches that are needed to make rapid progress in the field. The ways in which research can advance clinical implementation to improve health care outcomes (improve safety and effectiveness) and lower overall time and costs. Synergies that might come from a research network and would advance the field. Types of scientific endeavors that will best be funded by regular research grants in the field. Other interfaces and interactions that should be developed with other ongoing NIH-support initiatives, joint projects, and beyond NIH. Other comments, suggestions or considerations relevant to this RFI. Responders may address any or all of the above items.

Responses will be accepted until 8:00 p.m. (Eastern Time) on Friday, May 17, 2013.

Responses to this RFI are voluntary.  Any personal identifiers (e.g., names, addresses, e-mail addresses, etc.) will be removed when responses are compiled.  Only the de-identified comments will be used.  Proprietary, classified, confidential, or sensitive information should not be included in your response.  The Government reserves the right to use any non-proprietary technical information in any resultant solicitation(s).

This RFI is for information and planning purposes only and should not be construed as a solicitation or as an obligation on the part of the Federal Government, the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The NIH does not intend to make any awards based on responses to this RFI or to otherwise pay for the preparation of any information submitted or for the Government's use of such information.
