National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) (http://www.niddk.nih.gov)

The purpose of this Notice is to announce the availability of Request for Proposals (RFP) NIH-NIDDK-06-07, Urologic Diseases in America. The NIDDK is seeking an organization or an institution to continue updating the Urologic Diseases in America (UDA) compendium. The UDA delineates the changes in the epidemiology, health economic impact, and practice patterns for each of the diseases currently included within the scope of practice of the specialty of urology. The contractor will work closely with NIDDK project staff and will publish two updated versions of the UDA during the period of this contract. The contractor will also develop mechanisms that enhance data dissemination and analysis. These mechanisms will include at least two information data dissemination workshops as well as solicitations for, evaluation of, and support of, new and novel data analyses and reports.

Accurate information on the epidemiology and impact of urologic diseases is critical to the equitable allocation of scarce resources at the national, state, and local levels. Despite the need, reliable and valid health services data about urologic diseases have been scattered, inconsistent, and not readily available. The overall objective of the initial contract was to form a team of epidemiologists, health economists, statisticians, programmers, and urologists to search for all potential data sources for relevant information and health statistics in order to gather current and retrospective data to quantify the burden of urologic diseases on the American public. The compendium is intended to convey meaningful information to users at various levels of medical sophistication, including the public, elected leaders, government officials, non-government organizations, media outlets, physicians, nurses, allied health care personnel, and academic researchers.

Current UDA Chapters are available at: http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/statistics/uda

The UDA project is not procured through a grant mechanism.
