MORATORIUM ON PROGRAM PROJECT GRANT AWARDS

National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research

The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR), with 
the concurrence of the National Advisory Dental and Craniofacial 
Research Council, announces a moratorium on its Program Project grant 
award program.  All non-competing commitments for future year support 
made to current grantees will continue to be honored as indicated on the 
current Notice of Award. 

The NIDCR will no longer accept unsolicited applications for new (Type 
1) program project (P0l) grants after the February 1, 2001 deadline.  A 
final deadline of June 1, 2001, has been established for renewal (Type 
2) applications of currently supported Program Project grants that 
terminate on or before September 30, 2002. Applicants should consider 
submitting individual research project grant applications (R01s) at the 
appropriate time as potential alternative means of support should the 
competing renewal P01 application not be funded.

Competitive renewal applications will not be accepted for currently 
supported Program Project grants with project period end-dates after 
October 1, 2002. Where necessary to allow an orderly transition to other 
support, P01 grantees may request administrative extensions without 
additional funds for up to one year.  

These are the last competing receipt dates for the program project grant 
activity.  Competing applications for any program project grants 
submitted after these dates will be returned.

Current P01 awardees are strongly encouraged to contact the NIDCR 
program official identified on the Notice of Award for further 
information and to discuss future options for the transition from 
support under the P01 to support under other investigator-initiated 
grant mechanisms.  For additional information or for questions
