Notice to Clarify Guidelines for Submission of an Application to PAR-10-189, NIDA Research Center of Excellence Grant Program (P50)

Notice Number: NOT-DA-10-025

Key Dates
Release Date:  August 3, 2010

Issued by
National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), (http://www.nida.nih.gov)

Purpose

The purpose of this Notice is to clarify submission information for the NIDA Research “Center of Excellence” Grant Program (P50) PAR-10-189, http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-10-189.html

The one page allowed for the Specific Aims is not included in the page limits for the Research Strategy of each component. The content of the Research Strategy should follow the instructions provided in the most current version of the PHS 398.

A detailed budget should be presented for the entire application (Overall Center), as well as for each component.  The budget Instructions are provided in PHS398.

The FOA mentions minimum levels of effort for certain roles in the Center. Although the FOA describes this as a percent effort, the correct metric for the budget listing of effort (amount of time) that PD/PIs, faculty and other Senior/key Personnel devote to a specific project is person months. The effort is based on the type of appointment of the individual with the organization, e.g., calendar year (CY), academic year (AY), and/or summer term (SM); and the organization's definition of such.  For example, if a Center Director/PI devotes 35% effort on a grant on a yearly basis, it will be expressed as 4.2 (CY) person months.

All other aspects of this FOA remain unchanged.
