PURPOSE OF THE NOTICE:

The Center to Reduce Cancer Health Disparities, National Cancer Institute announces the intent to publish a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) for the implementation of Comprehensive Partnerships between Community Serving Institutions (CSI) (formerly referred to as Minority Serving Institutions, or MSIs) and NCI-designated Cancer Centers (CC) or groups of Centers. This program was formerly referred to as “Minority Institution/ Cancer Center Partnerships (MI/CCP)”. The new Comprehensive Partnership FOA is expected to be published in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts in the fall of 2010. The intended FOA will be a limited competition solicitation made available to the current U54 MI/CCP awardees (including those on a no cost extension) and past or current U56 MI/CCP awardees (including those on a no cost extension).”

APPLICATIONS ARE NOT BEING SOLICITED AT THIS TIME. However, this Notice is to encourage eligible institutions to pro-actively plan on developing applications in response to this forthcoming FOA.

OVERVIEW OF THE INITIATIVE

The upcoming CPRCHD FOA is for cooperative agreement U54 “linked award” applications for the implementation of Comprehensive Partnerships between CSIs and CCs. The objective is to foster and support collaborations among these institutions to develop stronger national cancer programs aimed at understanding the reasons behind the significant cancer disparities and related impacts on racial/ethnic and socio-economically disadvantaged populations. This FOA is intended for: (1) extending the support under the U54 mechanism for the best of the active Comprehensive Partnerships; and (2) elevating to the full Comprehensive Partnership status the U56 partnerships currently funded or in a no cost extension.
