SUPPORT SERVICES FOR MEDICAL RADIATION DOSIMETRY

RELEASE DATE: August 17, 2004

NOTICE: NOT-CA-04-027

National Cancer Institute (NCI)

The Radiation Epidemiology Branch (REB), Division of Cancer Epidemiology &
Genetics (DCEG), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institutes of
Health (NIH) is recompeting a requirement to continue dosimetry support
services for epidemiologic studies of populations exposed to ionizing
radiation, conducted by the REB. This support is essential to REB's ability
to quantify radiation risks and provide information on dose-response
relationships. The contractor shall evaluate the radiotherapy records
collected by the REB and determine whether the data are adequate to calculate
organ doses and provide organ doses for individual study subjects to the REB
for analysis. The contractor shall provide the support necessary to make
measurements on anthropomorphic phantoms, water phantoms, and/or to use
mathematical phantoms or computerized treatment planning programs or other
resources in order to reconstruct radiation doses to specific organs
following medical exposures. The contractor shall: (1) determine the manner
in which physical dosimetry can be best applied to the epidemiologic studies
of interest, (2) coordinate dosimetry data collected or prepared by other
collaborators who are participating in DCEG studies, (3) estimate doses to
designated organs or sites within organs, (4) compare various dosimetry
methods to validate consistency and accuracy of estimated doses, (5) report
doses to NCI, along with an indicator of the quality of radiotherapy
information, and (6) provide dosimetry data to REB to conduct methodologic
studies to evaluate the potential biases and uncertainties in the dose
estimates. It is anticipated that one cost-reimbursement, incrementally
funded, completion type contract will be awarded for a 5-year period of
performance beginning approximately April 29, 2005. The solicitation is
scheduled for electronic release on or before September 16, 2004. The
proposals will be due approximately 30 days following the actual date of RFP
issuance. RFP N02-CP-51002-38 may be accessed through the Research Contracts
Branch Home Page by using the internet address, http://rcb.nci.nih.gov/, and
by clicking on Current Requests for Proposals. It is the responsibility of
any potential offeror to monitor the above internet site for the release of
this solicitation and amendments, if any. POTENTIAL OFFERORS WILL BE
RESPONSIBLE FOR DOWNLOADING THEIR OWN COPIES OF THE SOLICITATION AND
AMENDMENTS. Any responsible offeror may submit a proposal that will be
considered by the Government; however, this notice does not commit the
Government to the award of a contract. No collect calls will be accepted.
