NOTICE OF LIMITED COMPETITION REQUEST FOR COMPETITIVE RENEWAL APPLICATION: THE EARLY DETECTION RESEARCH NETWORK DATA MANAGEMENT AND COORDINATING CENTER RELEASE DATE: April 23, 2004 NOTICE: NOT-CA-04-009 National Cancer Institute (NCI) (http://www.nci.nih.gov) The National Cancer Institute is requesting a competitive renewal application from the current awardee of the Early Detection Research Network Data Management and Coordinating Center. The Early Detection Research Network (EDRN) promotes and supports research on the development, evaluation, and validation of biomarkers for earlier cancer detection and risk assessment. The EDRN has four main components: Biomarker Developmental Laboratories, Biomarker Reference Laboratories, Clinical Epidemiology and Validation Centers, and a Data Management and Coordinating Center (DMCC). The DMCC provides statistical and computational analysis, data management for network biomarker validation studies, and informatics infrastructure and coordinates network-wide meetings and conferences. The incumbent DMCC has made a significant contribution to establishing guidelines for biomarker validation, developed the operation procedures of the EDRN, and designed the EDRN data collection and management system It is participating in the two ongoing validation trials, working with several EDRN investigators to develop protocols to validate new biomarkers, and developing an Information Technology infrastructure for distributed data and tools. Maintaining the current DMCC would allow for continuous support of the EDRN program and facilitate the NCI’s efforts to validate biomarkers for early cancer detection.
