GENETIC EPIDEMIOLOGY OF LUNG CANCER AND SMOKING: RFP AVAILABLE Release Date: March 6, 2000 NOTICE: CA-00-013 National Cancer Institute The Genetic Epidemiology Branch (GEB) of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is seeking out a contractor to provide support for an interdisciplinary case- control/sib-pair study of lung cancer designed to explore the genetic determinant of both lung cancer and of smoking. Approximately 4,000 subjects (2,000 cases and 2,000 controls), in addition to siblings will be identified and questionnaires and biospecimens collected in a relatively short period of time (1.5 - 2 years). Although the scientific design and oversight of the activities are the responsibility of the GEB, Professional staff, the major activities of the contract include providing support in a variety of areas including: 1) general aspects of the case control study (study initiation, study liaison, study approvals, etc.); 2) selection and recruitment of study participants (case ascertainment, control ascertainment, sibling ascertainment); 3) collection of biospecimens from study participants; 4) data collection; 5) data management; 6) establishment of a laboratory to process and store biospecimens collected from study participants; and 7) transportation of biospecimens, data, and materials collected from study participants. The anticipated solicitation issue date is approximately 21 days after publication of this notice, and proposals will be due approximately 30 days after the issue date.
