NIA Requests Information on Anticipated Needs for the Mutant Mouse Aging Colony

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) supports colonies of aged rodents for use in biogerontology research, including a small colony of mutant and transgenic mice (http://www.nia.nih.gov/ResearchInformation/ScientificResources/NIAMutantMouseAgingColony/). The mutant mouse aging colony consists of four lines: Snell Dwarf mice, Ames Dwarf mice, a GFP reporter transgenic line, and the mutant alpha-synuclein transgenic line B6;C3H-Tg (Prnp-SNCA)M83/Vle. This Notice is to inform the biogerontology research community that the mutant mouse aging colony will be discontinued, and provide an opportunity for researchers to alert the NIA of their anticipated needs for mice from the mutant mouse aging colony for the next two years.
The mutant mouse aging colony is slated to end no later than September 2013 and perhaps earlier, and will not be renewed. To best meet the needs of grantees, we request that anyone who plans to use mice from the mutant mouse aging colony send the following information via email to Dr. Nancy Nadon no later than March 1, 2011:
- Name and grant number
- Mutant mouse line number(s) to be used
- Estimated numbers, ages, and time frame for receiving the mice
