Funding Opportunity RFA-DE-14-003 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) seeks to stimulate innovative research that will increase our understanding of the role that uncultivable bacterial species play in the microbial ecology of the human oral microbiota during states of health and disease. The effective integration of current technologies and the development of new tools and innovative methods are especially encouraged.Due to the wide spectrum of possible experimental approaches and the multidisciplinary tools that will be required to study this unique microbial population, this FOA is designed specifically to encourage team science that will leverage innovation, broad expertise and multiple technological platforms to answer hypothesis-driven questions regarding these bacteria.Consistent with this approach, the use of a multiple Program Directors/Principal Investigators (PDs/PIs) model is encouraged that will recruit complementary and collaborative research teams to conduct these studies.

United States Renal Data System (USRDS) Special Study Centers (U01)

Funding Opportunity RFA-DK-13-008 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), Division of Kidney, Urologic and Hematologic Diseases (DKUHD) wishes to fund approximately two or three Special Studies Centers (SSCs) that will work with United States Renal Data System (USRDS) to carry out biomedical or economic studies in late stage Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) or dialysis patients. Each SSC will design, pilot, and conduct at least one special study during the grant period and also analyze existing datasets. The USRDS Coordinating Center will assume the overall project coordination and registry data construction functions. This initiative will be undertaken through the joint efforts of the NIH/NIDDK Division of Kidney, Urologic and Hematologic Diseases, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and in close collaboration with the United States nephrology and renal transplant communities and the major specialty organizations.

In-vivo Methods for Assessing Placental Development and Function (R41/R42)

Funding Opportunity RFA-HD-14-004 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to encourage applications to phenotype embryonic lethal knockout (KO) mouse strains being generated through the International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (IMPC) of which the NIH Knockout Mouse Phenotyping Program (KOMP2) is a member. It is estimated that KO mouse phenotyping efforts will generate 20,000 mouse strains over the next decade of which about 30% will be embryonic or perinatal lethal. A large portion of homozygous lethal mutations are expected to have viable heterozygous phenotypes. The scientific community has the unique opportunity to leverage these mouse strains while they are being created and bred as part of the IMPC adult mouse phenotyping effort.

Advancing Medical Device Postmarket Surveillance Infrastructure and Epidemiologic Methodologies through Multi-stakeholder Partnership (U01)

Funding Opportunity PAR-13-232 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. 1) To support implementation of the National Medical Device Postmarket Surveillance System through sustainable multi-stakeholder partnership 2) To develop new epidemiologic methodologies or to apply existing methodologies in new ways to provide a comprehensive understanding of medical device performance and clinical outcomes associated with device use in real-world use settings; 3) To develop new systems of data collection and/or analysis to permit prospective active medical device postmarket risk identification , periodic systematic updates of comprehensive evidence syntheses, visual analytics, and other efforts to broadly apply complex methodology to diverse data sources that facilitates postmarket surveillance; 4) To develop methodological approaches and/or systems that facilitate the use of postmarket information for regulatory decision making throughout the entire device lifecycle ; and 5) To support the development of and access to high quality data sources that can be used in comprehensive postmarket evaluation of medical device performance and associated outcomes.
